Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility

The Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility (CESR) serves as a bridge between the Leeds School of Business and the international business community in the sustainable and socially responsible business space, including the natural products and clean energy industries. Our work focuses on serving Leeds students to help them turn their passion for making a difference in the world into specific career goals, and in supporting their professional explorations through networking, mentorship and events. We also seek to serve the business community by sharing ground-breaking research, helping employers connect with talented Leeds students and graduates, and by creating professional trainings such as the Certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility. We support and share faculty research in three key areas:

  • Business Solutions to Environmental Challenges
  • Diversity and Inclusion
  • Ethical Leadership

We are proud to be part of what makes Leeds different from other business schools. CESR was founded in 2007 in response to the Leeds Family’s naming gift mandate that the four pillars of business ethics, corporate social responsibility, diversity and inclusion, and sustainability be incorporated throughout the school’s curriculum. In 2017, Dean Sharon Matusik created the related Social Responsibility and Sustainability (SRS) division, which houses faculty who teach core courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels to ensure that all students learn about ethics and social responsibility, and elective courses that delve deeper into questions of ethical leadership, sustainable operations, social entrepreneurship and more. Through our conferences, certificates, case competitions, treks, scholarships, student organizations and collaborations on curriculum, we aim to help students discover their values and practice using them in ethical decision-making.

CESR empowers current and future business leaders to drive solutions to environmental, social, and ethical challenges.

The CU Boulder Leeds School of Business is a globally recognized leader for innovative student programs, research, and partnerships that contribute toward a more sustainable, inclusive, and ethical world.
