SRE Certificate
(Jenna Bieller, Lucas Light)

December 2015

Winter graduations are typically smaller than those in the spring, but that doesn’t make them any less exciting. CESR is proud to congratulate our two December graduates, Jenna Bieller and Lucas Light, who leave the Leeds School of Business with CESR’s Socially Responsible Enterprise (SRE) Certificate.

Jenna Bieller, who has accepted the full-time position of Digital Marketing and Data Specialist at Renewable Choice Energy, a B-corp in Boulder, notes the competitive edge that CESR courses and the Certificate have given her.

“CESR has been instrumental in my career going forth from graduation. I strongly believe that CESR gave me the opportunity to get ahead of the market and create an emphasis for myself that sets me apart from all other Leeds graduates. The company that I accepted a job offer from highly values my understanding of sustainability and how it can work as an advantage for business.”

Lucas Light completed his SRE studies by combining CESR coursework with an independent study in responsible lending practices. Light conducted high-level research culminating in a fifty-page report on predatory lending in the context of microfinance.

“I feel lucky to have studied these topics in depth. These great opportunities helped to pique my interest in socially responsible enterprise as well as instill a sense of ethics into my personality. Since these studies, I hold both corporations and myself to higher standards of citizenship.”

The Certificate

The Center for Education on Social Responsibility (CESR) offers the Certificate in Socially Responsible Enterprise (SRE) to business students who seek to distinguish themselves in the field of socially responsible business, whether their unique interests lie in environmental sustainability, social entrepreneurship, corporate ethics or values-driven leadership. The SRE Certificate is a combination of three components: Business Coursework, Experiential Learning Opportunities, and Personal Reflection.

CESR’s mission is to educate and mentor values-driven businessmen and women to equip them with the knowledge and skills to be well-rounded and competitive leaders. When asked about her experience with CESR, Jenna said, “engaging in CESR was one of the best academic decisions I have made.”
