Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship Winner Announced
Forty-eight students were initiated into Beta Gamma Sigma on May 9 at the Leeds Recognition Ceremony at the Coors Event Center.
Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma constitutes the highest national and international recognition a student in business can receive in an undergraduate or master's program at a school accredited by the AACSB --- the International Association for Management Education. Of the 2,000 institutions with degree programs in business, only 500 are accredited by AACSB and have chapters of Beta Gamma Sigma.
To be eligible for membership, the academic ranking of those being invited to join must place them in the upper 10 percent of the junior class, the upper 10 percent of the senior class, or in the upper 20 percent of the graduating master's class. While almost 300,000 students receive bachelor of master's degrees in business each year, only 21,000 students are elected to membership in Beta Gamma Sigma.
Additionally, Marisa Ishikawa ('15 marketing) has been selected for the 2013 Student Scholarship Program of Beta Gamma Sigma.
Ishikawa, of Boulder, will be completing her junior year at the Leeds School of Business and College of Music in the 2013-14 academic year. She is earning a business degree with an emphasis in marketing and a music degree in violin performance. Her GPA is 3.914.
She is a member of the Alpine String Quartet in the CU College of Music, and works as a violin teacher teaching students ranging from age 6 to 18, using the Suzuki method. She has received numerous academic awards during her collegiate career. She has also volunteered with the Leeds School's freshmen experience, CoLab, as well as assisted with the College of Music's auditions and recruitment. She has also provided free concerts to residents of the Frasier Meadows Retirement Home.
