Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Law

LL.M. students can enjoy our extensive course offerings in both:

  • domestic U.S. energy, natural resources, and environment law; and
  • international and comparative dimensions of these legal areas.

Core courses in these fields include Foundations of Natural Resources, Environmental Law, and Energy Law. Students can also specialize by taking courses in climate change, mining, oil and gas, and numerous other topics. Our curriculum also seeks to connect to transactional practice with courses such as Renewable Energy Project Finance. Colorado Law’s natural resources, energy, and environmental law curriculum also includes capstone seminars, some of which have a significant field component.

Students at Colorado Law interested in natural resources, energy, and environment law also benefit from the programming and projects of the law school’s Getches-Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy, and the Environment (GWC).

All of these areas of law require lawyers to work with experts across disciplines. In addition to its internationally renowned natural sciences and engineering departments, CU Boulder is also home to the innovative Environmental Studies Program.

Colorado Law’s faculty and students collaborate with NGOs and national laboratories located in the Boulder area, such as the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

CU Boulder acknowledges that it is located on the traditional territories and ancestral homelands of the Cheyenne, Arapaho, Ute and many other Native American nations. Their forced removal from these territories has caused devastating and lasting impacts.  Full CU Boulder land acknowledgement
