Janet Bercovitz joins the Leeds School of Business Fall 2017 as a Professor of Strategy & Entrepreneurship from the College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  She started her academic career on the faculty of the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Professor Bercovitz’s research program consists of two main research streams.  The first concentrates on extending understanding of academic entrepreneurship and university-industry technology transfer. The second stream focuses on issues of organizational structure and inter-organizational contractual relationships. Her research has been published in major journals such as Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Research Policy, and the Journal of Technology Transfer.  

Professor Bercovitz teaches a wide range of courses at the undergraduate, MBA, PhD, and Executive MBA levels.  Recent offerings include: Economics of Organization, Entrepreneurship and New Venture Growth, Management of Technology and Innovation, and Strategic Management.  While at the University of Illinois she was consistently included on the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by their Students (2009-2017).

Professor Bercovitz currently serves on the editorial review boards of Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, and Research Policy and as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Technology Transfer.  She is currently Program Chair for the Strategic Management Society Cooperative Strategies Interest Group and Treasurer for the Society of Institutional and Organizational Economics (SIOE).

Janet holds a BS degree in chemistry, an MBA, and a PhD in Business and Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley.
