At Leeds, scholarships help students make the most of the many opportunities their business education can offer. From supporting undergraduate and graduate education, to opening access to experiences beyond the classroom, philanthropic support ensures that more students can pursue the opportunities that make a Leeds education distinctive.
A GLOBAL EXPERIENCE, WITHIN REACH
“Participating in FGX and traveling to Lisbon was an eye-opening experience that changed how I view business.”
For many Leeds students, the First-Year Global Experience (FGX) offers an introduction to international business and, for some, their first opportunity to travel abroad. This two-credit elective course immerses students in another country for one week, where they examine how cultural differences and global issues influence business. In 2025-26, 350 students participated in FGX programs across 11 trips. Faculty-led business visits, cultural activities, and classroom learning instill a global mindset and foster a cultural awareness that is essential in today’s interconnected business environment.
As a global business leader, Leeds alumnus Ryan McMunn understands the value of seeing business from an international perspective. He also knows that experiences like FGX can shape how students understand the world and their place in it. Through a $1.5 million gift, Ryan and his wife Allie established the McMunn Global Experience Fund. Their gift is designed to expand access to FGX and help more first-year students take part, regardless of their financial circumstances.
The fund provides scholarship support based on demonstrated financial need, helping remove cost as a barrier, and encouraging every student to consider the opportunity.
The impact of this philanthropic gift extends beyond an experience abroad. As one student shared, “From day one, FGX was a bonding experience—two weeks later, my closest friends are the ones I made during that trip.” Students return with a global mindset, new business perspectives and lasting connections that enrich their Leeds education.
