It’s a CESR Celebration!

Mark Speaking

October 14th marked the annual CESR Alumni gathering with alumni from former Leadership Challenges classes and graduates of the Socially Responsible Enterprise (SRE) Certificate. Also in attendance were members of the current Leadership Challenges course, members and officers of the newly formed CESR Fellows student group, CESR Advisory Board members, and CESR Faculty and staff. Alumni from seven different classes joined.

Set at Fiske Planetarium on the Boulder campus, the group was greeted by CESR Executive Director Mark Meaney and chairman emeritus Michael Leeds, with comments from Junior Board President Michelle Ried. Founding President of the CESR Fellows student group, Lauren Morrell, was then introduced. She further recognized the other founding officers in attendance and those currently involved with the general membership.

“It was great to see the community and support behind CESR,” said Morrell of the seventy plus people in attendance at the event.

The featured presentation for the evening was “Bella Gaia”, a film inspired by the astronauts’ experience of seeing Earth from above. Using satellite imagery, NASA modeling, and cultural heritage pieces set against an award winning musical score, the filmmakers focus on creating an emotional experience as well as an intellectual one.

CESR StudentsThe group was also treated to a short presentation on the current state of the night sky, so they could identify constellations and other astral bodies currently visible. The clear night sky assisted in the experience, allowing visitors to enjoy the “live” presentation as they departed.

Many thanks to all those who helped in creating a wonderful event and to those who attended as well. We hope to see you all next year!
