A delegation of Russian judges visited Colorado Law today as part of a weeklong study tour to the United States legal system. As part of a larger outreach program between the United States and judges in transitional communities, each year delegations start in Washington, DC, to attend courses from federal judges and then split up to visit different cities. The 6 Russian Court of General Jurisdiction judges who visited Denver are sponsored by the Open World Program and spent spend four rigorous days attending a range of educational opportunities. The Denver program, organized by their hosts Judges Timothy Tymkovich (’82) and David Ebel, included visits to the Federal Courts to talk about court administration, Governor Ritter (’81) to discuss the relationship between the media and the courts, Denver district courts to meet with prosecutors, bankruptcy courts, law firms who conduct business in Russia, and Colorado Law School to discuss the civil justice system. Denver has been a popular choice in the past years for visiting judges, not only because of the great climate and beautiful views, but because both the state and federal courts are located in the city, as well as having two law schools nearby.
