From Dean Anaya: Update on commencement

March 17, 2020

Dear students,

I’m following up on the Chancellor’s email earlier this afternoon announcing the cancellation of CU Boulder’s in-person commencement on May 7, as well as all college, school and department-based recognition ceremonies, due to COVID-19. This unfortunate but necessary decision includes cancellation of the law school commencement ceremony scheduled for May 8.

I understand the disappointment that comes from this decision for our 3Ls, their families, and others. The present situation is truly a regrettable one and is resulting in some very difficult decisions. I can’t help but reiterate that we are doing everything we can to ensure that all of our students, faculty, staff, and their families remain safe and healthy.

To our 3Ls: It is very important to me and the law school community that we properly celebrate you, your successes, and your hard work over the last several years. Please know that we are exploring alternative ways of recognizing the Class of 2020, including the possibility of an appropriate event once the COVID-19 threat sufficiently diminishes. In the meantime, if you have questions or thoughts around commencement, please contact me or Dean Dimock (whiting.dimock@colorado.edu).

I remain deeply appreciative of your understanding, patience, and flexibility.

Your Dean
