Externships

An externship is an opportunity to gain academic credit for doing substantive legal work with a government agency, private non-profit or public interest institution, or other private sector employer such as a law firm. In accordance with the goals of ABA Standard 305 and Law School Miscellaneous Rules and Decisions of the Faculty 24, Colorado Law’s Externship Program aims to help students develop professional lawyering skills, gain insight into various aspects of the legal system and profession, and cultivate a sense of professional responsibility. Our mandatory externship class also gives students the opportunity to learn from and reflect on their field experiences.

This program is overseen by the Assistant Dean for Students & Professional Programs and Professor Attendant Rank, Lorenzo Trujillo, and he serves as the Faculty Supervisor for all students in the Externship Program.  This program is also administrated by the Director for Public Sector & Externships, Karen Trojanowski, in the Office of Career Development.
