J. Brad Bernthal

Brad Bernthal is an Emeritus Professor at Colorado Law, where he worked from 2007 until his retirement. Colorado Law granted him emeritus status in January 2026. Since retiring, Brad has focused his work on mental skills training for tennis players. He is the author of The Inner Scoreboard, a book on mental performance in tennis and life, scheduled for publication in late fall 2026.
Brad’s academic work focused on startups, entrepreneurial law, negotiation, and early-stage finance. He served three years as the Executive Director of the Silicon Flatirons Center and was the founding director of its Entrepreneurship Initiative. His scholarship examined contractual instruments used in angel and venture capital investments, and he provided legal scholarship’s first systematic analysis of investment accelerators. Brad also studied advocacy strategies involved in federal technology policymaking.
