Fall 2013 Dean's Letter

Dear Fellow Deans and Colleagues,

The New Normal for legal education is presenting a range of challenges for all of us.   As we address these challenges, it is also important to focus on the opportunities ahead.  While the development of an emerging model for legal education in the New Normal remains a work-in-progress, sharing the results of the experiments and finding ways to collaborate will enable us to learn from one another’s experience and better help our students.

In the spirit of collaboration, I am writing to invite you to share ideas and suggestions for a conference we are planning here at Colorado Law, tentatively set for April 17, 2014 and focusing on “What the New Normal Means For Law School Innovation.”  The conference is just now taking shape, but we are planning to focus on the following themes—(1) strategies for spearheading change; (2) how to develop an entrepreneurial attitude among students; (3) how to identify and develop critical competencies for the New Normal; and (4) the emerging non-traditional opportunities for law school graduates (JD Advantage job opportunities).  I greatly value your thoughts and insights, and would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you have.  If you are interested in collaborating on this effort, or other topics, please reach out to me.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts and suggestions you can share.  Please contact me directly at phil.weiser@colorado.edu if you have any suggestions or ideas. I would love to hear from you and I look forward to finding ways we might work together.

Cheers,

Phil Weiser
Dean
