LLM SPOTLIGHT: Valentin Gutierrez

As the fall semester approaches, Colorado Law is proud to highlight some of our incoming Master of Laws (LLM) students. The LLM program fully immerses students in Colorado Law and offers inclusive access to programming, courses/modules, and the greater University of Colorado Boulder campus. LLM students have unique and diverse backgrounds and experiences that enrich our community of scholars and students, while advancing Colorado Law’s intellectual leadership across the globe.

In this edition, we learn more about Valentin Gutierrez. In addition to being a professional whitewater kayaker, Valentin earned his Law degree at Universidad de Mendoza in San Rafael, Argentina in 2021. Since then, he has been pursuing his whitewater kayaking career goals, competing internationally, teaching, and traveling around the world.

Meet the LLM class of 2024’s Valentin Gutierrez!

What inspired you to pursue an LLM degree?

VG: I like to be in dynamic environments and surrounded by people that are the best at what they do. Getting to know the vast US economy and legal system from such a prestigious university as CU Boulder was an opportunity I had to take.

What are you most looking forward to in your move to Boulder?

VG: I look forward to connecting with the amazing Colorado community, getting better at climbing, and spending time in the mountains. I am also looking forward to further developing my knowledge in business and environmental law and gaining experience in the law field.

What are your hobbies outside of work/school?

VG: Whitewater kayaking, it's been taking up a lot of my time. I also love to climb, ski and be outdoors.

What makes Colorado Law a great place to further your career and education? In other words, why did you choose Colorado Law?

VG: The combination of easy access to the outdoors, plus the connections and high-standard classes that Colorado Law offers are what ultimately made me choose it.
