Leading an Ethical Organization in a Sometimes Unethical World

John Ikard, President & CEO, FirstBank Holding Company

John Ikard is a national leader in the banking world and an exemplar of how to lead an ethical organization.  On the heels of the financial crisis, many asked tough questions on whether and how banks maintained (or failed to maintain) a commitment to ethical practices, trustworthy behavior, and the creation of long-term value for all relevant stakeholders.  As the leader of FirstBank and the Chairman of the American Bankers Association, John Ikard has successfully addressed these very questions; he brings a record of integrity to everything he does.  In this talk, he will reflect on how he practices ethical leadership and resists the sort of pressures that have led other companies to lose the confidence of customers, regulators, and the public.

John Ikard joined FirstBank in 1981 and in 1999 was elected President and CEO of FirstBank Holding Company. FirstBank is the second largest bank in Colorado, holding just under $15 billion in assets, employing 2,000 people, and offering locations in Colorado, California, and Arizona. John actively participates in community leadership as Chairman of the American Bankers Association and Chairman of the Board of the Denver Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, and by serving on the board of the Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation. John graduated from Colorado State University and the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington and holds an MBA from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas.
