Minor in Sports Media

Study sports as culture, as communication, as an industry and as a social force.  

The minor in sports media allows students to explore many aspects of one of the largest industries in the world. Harnessing the strength of CMCI’s academic departments as well as coursework from across campus, the minor teaches students to critically examine the role of sports media in society and offers insight into many aspects of the sports media industry such as sports journalism and sports media relations. The goal of the minor is to take the student's interest in sports and provide perspective on the sports media industry as well as opportunities to gain skills sports media practices.

Academic Plan & Requirements

The sports media minor includes coursework from several of CMCI’s departments as well as other CU Boulder academic departments. It is open to all undergraduate students at CU Boulder. 

Our students explore a range of topics, including:

  • Sport for Social Justice
  • Gender, Sport and Culture
  • Sports Broadcasting

Students who minor in journalism may not use the same JRNL courses for the JRNL minor and for the sports and media minor.
