Minor in Journalism

Learn to share stories that matter while mastering both foundational and emerging modes of journalism.  

The minor in journalism allows students to develop essential journalism skills with a goal of understanding how stories can reveal important social truths. Students will take two required courses––Principles of Journalism and Networked Communication and Writing for the Media––which will introduce them to a range of possible interests, including broadcasting, print and online media, digital and emerging media, and writing for the media.

Academic Plan & Requirements

Students earning a minor in journalism may emphasize conceptual and theory courses, select skills courses that help to prepare them for possible careers, or complete a combination of the two. Students in the minor may also earn a limited number of credits from an independent study or internship. 

Students may not use the same journalism courses for both the journalism minor and the sports media minor.
