Please consult with your academic advisor before enrolling in a substitute course or with questions about pacing. While some substitutes are almost identical to the MCEN version, others are only appropriate for students pursuing a specific minor or option track, based on requisites.

Some of the courses listed below may be restricted to students in that major. To request enrollment in a course that's restricted, you may need to submit a course request form.

  • CSCI 1300: ECEN 1310, ASEN 1320, CSCI 1320 (last offered spring 2020), CHEN 1310 & APPM 2460 (this combination of courses is pre-approved to satisfy CSCI 1300, for students who originally took CHEN 1310 as a CHEN/CBEN/EVEN major; submission of a formal petition is required) 
  • ECEN 3010: MCEN 3017, GEEN 3010, ECEN 2250+2260+2270
    • In addition to receiving ECEN 3010 credit, ECEN 2250+2260+2270 will also satisfy the Math/Science Foundations requirement.
    • Starting in Spring 2023, we will start slowly migrating ECEN 3010 to MCEN 3017, with the goal of MCEN 3017 being the default class. Both are the same class and meet at the same time. 
  • GEEN 1400: ASEN 1400, ASEN 1403, COEN 1400, ECEN 1400, GEEN 1410, GEEN 2400 (sophomores or juniors), GEEN 3400 (juniors or seniors)
  • MCEN 1024: CHEM 1113, CHEN 1201, CHEN 1211
  • MCEN 2023: GEEN 2851, CVEN 2121, ASEN 2001/2701
  • MCEN 2024: GEEN 3024, ASEN 1022
  • MCEN 2043: CVEN 3111, PHYS 3210, ASEN 2003/2703
  • MCEN 2063: CVEN 3161
  • MCEN 3012: GEEN 3852, AREN 2110, EVEN 3012
  • MCEN 3021: AREN 2120, CHEN 3200, CVEN 3313
  • MCEN 3022: CHEN 3210
  • MCEN 3030: APPM 4650 (changing to APPM 4600 starting in Fall 2022), CSCI 3656
  • MCEN 3047: GEEN 3853
  • MCEN 4043: ECEN 3300+4138
    • In addition to receiving MCEN 4043 credit, ECEN 3300+4138 will also give you credit for MCEN 4228 Feedback Control, which can satisfy an ME or General Technical Elective.
