As a graduate student at CU Boulder, you will focus not only on the planning, design, construction and management of the built environment, but also on the interaction between the built and natural environments. We offer Master's and PhD degrees in architectural engineering, environmental engineering and in civil engineering, and our students and faculty are doing exciting research in areas including:

  • Architectural Engineering (Building Systems Engineering)
  • Construction Engineering Management
  • Engineering Science
  • GeoEnvironmental Engineering
  • Global Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering and Geomechanics
  • Hydrology, Water Resources and Environmental Fluid Mechanics
  • Structural Engineering and Structural Mechanics
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Civil Systems

With more than 50 faculty holding over $10 million in annual grants, you will work and learn alongside leading researchers as you advance your knowledge and the information available to our world.

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering (CEAE), along with the Environmental Engineering (EVEN) program are strongly committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in our community. Collectively our goal is to lead in education and research related to the sustainable development, management, and safety of civil and architectural infrastructure systems, and environmental challenges. Our graduate program brings together a diverse knowledge base, perspectives, and approaches. With this diversity, in a community actively pursuing inclusivity and collaboration, we believe we can develop solutions that will help us overcome the biggest challenges impacting our communities and world.

To meet our commitment to creating and maintaining a community that upholds these values, we are committed to

  • Prioritizing actions toward an inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff;
  • Providing evidence-based and equity-enhancing support and opportunities, including mentorship, fellowships, and research support;
  • Providing educational experiences for our students that engages the interrelationship between engineering and social justice;
  • Developing and implementing a departmental and program Inclusion, Diversity and Excellence in Academics (IDEA) plan in alignment with University of Colorado Boulder; and
  • Listening to members of our community so that we can continuously improve.
