Arctic sea ice trend depicted through art
The Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the globe, and one serious consequence is sea ice loss. The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), part of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at CU Boulder, tracks how Arctic sea ice is changing over time. NSIDC worked with contemporary painter Kendall Kippley to share an artistic interpretation of sea ice loss via a mural in downtown Boulder. The mural was inspired by an NSIDC graph visualizing average Arctic sea ice extent from 1979 to 2020.
