MechE News - October 2021

Alumni, Industry Partners & Friends:

Halfway through the fall semester, the return to campus continues to be remarkable. I am reenergized each day by the presence of students in the classroom. With various public health measures still in place, we are very fortunate to be in Boulder, where we can teach and engage with students outside in the beautiful fall air.

I also want to commend the work everyone is doing to celebrate diversity and improve equity within the department, including the growing ME Partnership Programs. I look forward to seeing those efforts flourish in the coming years. The more mechanical engineers we have solving society’s challenges, the better.

Sincerely,

Mike Hannigan
Department Chair

The Return to Campus: A renewed energy in the Department of Mechanical Engineering

If there was a mantra for fall 2021 in the Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering, everyone would be saying ‘it’s good to be back.’ The University of Colorado Boulder has welcomed students back to campus, allowing ME faculty to bring back traditional hands-on labs and classes for the first time in nearly two years.

Teaching Opportunities in Mechanical Engineering

The department is looking to a hire a full-time Scholar in Residence and multiple adjunct teaching positions for spring 2022. We have a specific interest in hiring adjuncts with industry experience in design and/or manufacturing who can bring their expertise in those areas to the classroom. Questions can be directed to Daniel.Riffell@colorado.edu.

Double your impact for Giving Tuesday 2021

Support the College of Engineering and Applied Science this Giving Tuesday 2021! All gifts made now through Nov. 30 on giving.cu.edu/buffengineersgiveback will count toward Giving Tuesday 2021. This year, you can support the Dean’s Fund for Excellence, the BOLD Center, and the Mechanical Engineering Excellence Fund for your Giving Tuesday gift. The department fund supports the Mechanical Engineering Department.

The first $25,000 donated will be matched 1:1, thanks to the generosity of John Mollenkopf (MechEngr’83), chair of the Engineering Advisory Council.
