The Department of Mechanical Engineering is welcoming three new faculty members for fall 2021. They are researchers, entrepreneurs and educators who are bringing the department new industry and research opportunities.
Lecturer
Jeremy Koch joins the Paul M. Rady School of Mechanical Engineering as a Thermofluids Lecturer. Koch has a PhD in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois. He became a part of the R+PM Group as a Post-Doctoral Associate in December of 2019 to initiate new research directions in functional use of liquid crystalline materials in energy applications.
Assistant Research Professor
Arthur Mizzi's research focuses on air quality, specifically regional ensemble chemical weather forecasting, data assimilation and emissions adjustment. He developed WRF-Chem/DART, a regional ensemble chemical weather forecast/data assimilation system that is used throughout North America, Western Europe and Asia. Mizzi has a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado.
Research Professor
Jacob Segil researches brain-machine interfaces, neural prosthetic devices and myoelectric control systems. Before joining the ME department, Segil was a Senior Instructor with the Engineering Plus program. Segil is also a Research Healthcare Scientist in the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center. He holds eight patent/patent applications, has founded three companies and consults with two additional companies. Segil received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder.
