Researcher wins award for study on pipeline performance during earthquakes

Brad Wham receives his award on stage at the 2018 Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference in Prague.

Brad Wham, a member of the CU Boulder research faculty and manager of the Center for Infrastructure, Energy and Space Testing, has received the GEO Widera Literature Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

The award recognizes the outstanding technical paper in the Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology. Wham’s paper, “PVCO Pipeline Performance Under Large Ground Deformations,” showed that an innovative PVC pipe system may be a good option for supplying water to regions prone to earthquakes, floods and landslides.
