Minor in Hebrew & Israel Studies

Our students become able speakers of Hebrew and well-rounded observers of Israel and the Middle East, and they enjoy satisfying careers in education, communication, community services, the arts, law, human resources, information technology and finance.

The minor in Hebrew and Israel studies focuses on developing students’ Hebrew language skills while exploring a variety of courses on issues related to Israel and the Middle East. This minor is ideal for students who are interested in pursuing an international career or study in the Middle East.

Gain internship opportunities with a nonprofit organization, educational institution, political office, medical school or other site for a semester of service learning

Learn either modern Hebrew, where the focus is on present-day usage, or biblical Hebrew, where we learn the intricacies of biblical forms and how to read and understand the Hebrew Bible

Participate in our global seminars: Jews and Muslims: The Multi-Ethnic History of Istanbul; and Justice, Human Rights and Democracy in Israel/Palestine

Academic Plan & Requirements

The minor in Hebrew and Israel studies is open to all students of all backgrounds and areas of study. To earn the minor, students must complete 19 credit hours of Hebrew language courses and content courses focusing on Israeli and/or the Middle East.
