Student team takes first place in national design-build competition

A team of CU Boulder civil and architectural engineering students took home first place in the Design-Build Institute of America’s National Student Competition, held earlier this month in Las Vegas.
The competition challenged teams to use design-build methods to submit a proposal for a parking facility on a college campus. The team participated in several rounds of competition before defending their design and construction plans before a panel of judges in Las Vegas.
This was the second year in a row that CU Boulder’s team made it to the national competition. Last year’s team took home third place.
Team members included:
- Doug Alleman, second-year PhD student in construction engineering management
- Nathan Klass, BS/MS student in civil engineering
- Raymond Righi, senior architectural engineering major
- Shawn Sweeny, BS/MS student in architectural engineering
- Charles Stephen Von Thaden, senior structural engineering major
The team is advised by Professor Keith Molenaar.
