Per University policy, fringe benefits are charged on all salaries for University employees working on sponsored projects.
This includes part-time employees, anyone at less than 50% appointment. If the employee is not benefit eligible, there is still a reduced fringe benefit rate to cover workers comp, etc., charged to the contract/grant. The current fringe benefit rate for part-time employees is available through the links below on the Campus Controller’s Office Webpage.

Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs) are supported on sponsored research projects per a monthly contracted salary. The Graduate School establishes the varying rates used by colleges, departments and institutes based on students' qualification. Current rates for 0.5 FTE are outlined in the tables below.
Tuition remission for GRA is estimated in accordance with the eligibility requirements set in the Graduate Student Appointment Manual. Eligibility is based on GRAs percent of effort for each academic semester. The per credit hour rates are established each academic year by CU Boulder Bursar's Office. GRA salary and tuition must be charged proportionally.
Effective 07/10/2024
Campus Minimum: 50% time, monthly rate: $2,904.56
These amounts are only in effect for AY or 12 month appointments and need to be adjusted if students are appointed for single terms.
*Some departments define these pay categories differently, e.g., Pre-prelim, Post-prelim, Post-comps.
