Fairy Tale Dungeons & Dragons

Saturday, April 4th, 2026 from 11am–4pm at the CU Art Museum
Explore collaborative storytelling by joining a Dungeons & Dragons 5e one-shot adventure inspired by Fairy Tales and the Power of Wonder. Four local dungeon masters will each run a different game to choose from. Should you accept this quest, you will complete a full D&D game in one sitting.
Dice and snacks will be provided, and dungeon masters will be bringing pre-made character sheets. Whether this will be your first adventure or your fiftieth, all are welcome!
Board games, solo role-playing games, and card games will also be available in the gallery.
This program is free but registration is required. Sign up below.
Registration is limited to 8 players per game.
D&D Games Menu
Find yourself sailing across a fantastical vision of the Yellow Sea of China, filled with magic, monsters, dragons, and ancient gods. Battle the rough seas, the ghosts of islands long abandoned, and more as you seek out an ancient scroll with the power to save your people from an impending cursed plague. Your story starts and ends with the choices you make; the fate of your people lies in your hands. Make or break the fates at play, the choice is yours.
Fletcher started playing DnD at 17, and he fell in love with the game. He first played as a player for a campaign that lasted 2 years, and DMed one-shots as much as he could. Being a storyteller was simply so fun and getting to do it with others, and having a creative, community-driven story was simply eye-opening. He currently runs a sci-fi dystopian campaign for a group of friends. He can't wait to see the story y'all can tell.
Adventurers are assembled by Shaemus Glorygem (a prominent merchant in the city of Harken) to set out on a quest. The goal? Proof of the existence of the Lucky Dragon of Godling.
Andrew Gilbert teaches game studies and humanities at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He has been playing D&D in various forms since age 7 and picked it back up in 2015. Andrew is the DM for the podcast Goats and Dragons as well as Dom and Dragons (where he played D&D with actor Dominic Monaghan of Lord of the Rings, Lost, Star Wars, and X-Men fame). He plays with the group called Helpful Goat Gaming who is starting a new campaign soon called, "The Nameless Veil." And he loves teaching people this amazing game.
Intro:
A long, long time ago, back when tigers used to smoke, the magical and the mundane lived far nearer to one another than they do today. It was not uncommon for travelers passing through the forests and mountains to encounter the wondrous and magical in the wilderness, and tales of the beings they encountered–like faeries, and dragons, and foxes who turned into women, and women who turned into foxes, and imperious tigers, and judgmental magpies–spread far and wide.
It is against this backdrop that this adventure takes place. The governor of Gyeongsang Province has received reports that Gochang, a small village lying deep within the Taebaek Mountains, has vanished. The Taebaek Mountains, which are covered in dense forest, were once supposedly the seat of the long-vanished Kingdom of Jinhan, and are reputed to be the homes of supernatural beings and monsters of all types. The governor has asked scholars, and soldiers, and many others to investigate Gochang, but all have been too fearful to do so. In desperation, the governor has turned to you, a group of seasoned adventurers who happened to be passing through the province, and you have agreed to venture into the mountains and seek out what has become of the village and its inhabitants.
This adventure is for all ages, and is based on Korean folklore and mythology. No experience with either tabletop roleplaying games or Korean folklore is necessary. You will encounter supernatural beings like faeries and monsters and talking animals, and should expect to confront social, combat, and puzzle-based challenges. You will be playing level 5 characters; for balance purposes, character builds are limited to vanilla Player's Handbook classes, subclasses, and spells. Premade character sheets will be available.
About this dungeon master:
Erin Hong Gerstner is a Korean-American transgender woman who has been playing D&D since 2016, and DMing since 2017. D&D, and the people she's been lucky enough to meet through it (like Elizabeth, the organizer of this event) have been formative in allowing her to be who she is today. She's excited to play with everyone!
Intro:
You are all heroes of various kinds with a common through-line: you have died putting your life on the line for something greater than yourself. For this reason, the highest figure in Heaven and the highest figure in Hell have decided to put you into their game. What game, you might be wondering? A game of life, where at the end of a maze lies your chance to turn back the clock, change the hands of fate, and change your death into a miracle, where you are alive once again. However, this isn’t just any ordinary maze - after all, they couldn’t have made it easy. This is a maze designed by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, who has constructed infinite interconnecting doors and staircases. While designing this maze with Hell in mind, he made sure to ensure there were an unlimited number of possibilities and solutions. So, will you survive to reclaim and change your destiny? Only time will tell.
About this dungeon master:
Cole Reimer first got into Dungeons & Dragons during seventh grade while he was trying to entertain himself during COVID. But he didn’t have a group to play with until he reached high school, where his new friend group took turns DMing campaigns. When it was eventually his turn, it was around Halloween, his favorite holiday, so he got to do a Halloween-themed campaign, which he thought would be his favorite part—but he was wrong. It was seeing the laughter, joy, and struggle on his friends’ faces when they faced challenges and went through the world that he made. This led him to become the permanent DM once everybody had taken their turn running campaigns. And that has led him to where he is now. He can’t wait to see who’s going to walk through his next campaign!
