A PhD requires 30 credit hours at the 5000 level or above, at least 15 hours of which must be ASEN courses, and 30 hours of dissertation credit. The PhD sequence requires 2 approved math courses and at least 9 credit hours of 6000 level coursework. Some focus areas may have additional curriculum requirements. You must pass the departmental preliminary and comprehensive examinations and successfully defend your dissertation in a final examination.

You do not need to have a master’s degree to apply to the PhD program.

PhD students, on average, take 4-6 years to complete their program, depending on whether they enter with or without a master’s degree.

At the time of admission, you must have a faculty advisor who agrees to accept you into their research program and mentor your academic progress.

PhD students are supported through research and teaching assistantships and are also encouraged to apply for their own source of funding. Information about tuition/fees is available on the Bursar's website.

Detailed program/curriculum requirements are in the Graduate Handbook
