Membership in the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band is determined solely by auditions. Each audition will be 7-10 minutes in length, and each person should prepare the downloadable excerpts. Auditions for the fall 2020 semester were submitted online as single-take video recordings only; the format for fall 2021 auditions is TBD. Wind auditions for the CU Symphony Orchestra will take place at the same times.

Seating placement auditions for the Concert Band and Campus Band are held in the first rehearsal of each semester. For more information, see below. 

Required Performance Attire for CU Bands

Option 1: Black tuxedo, white shirt, black bow tie, black dress shoes, and black socks.

Option 2: Floor-length black skirt, black pants (no denim), or black dress. Long-sleeved black blouse, black dress shoes, simple jewelry. No bare shoulders, necklines, or midriffs.

Concert Band and Campus Band Auditions

Non-music Majors: There is a band for you at CU! You are of course welcome to audition for Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band. We also offer the following options:

Concert Band (EMUS 1317/3317 sec. 001) is comprised of a combination of music and non-music majors. This ensemble meets on Monday and Wednesdays from 5:20-7:20pm in the Spring semester. Campus Band (EMUS 1317/3317 sec. 002) is comprised of mainly non-majors and meets on Monday evenings from 7:45-10pm in the Spring semester. These groups are both non-auditioned ensembles. If you are interested in joining either ensemble, please contact Dr. Branden Steinmetz at for more information. **Please note that due to COVID-19 campus protocols, space is limited for each ensemble. CONTACT Dr. Steinmetz about being placed on a waiting list if necessary.
