In this Younger Members Committee (YMC) webinar, Abbie Liel explained the ongoing human-caused seismicity in Oklahoma, Kansas and other parts of the central U.S. from an earthquake engineering perspective. She discussed if these earthquakes are different from the natural (tectonic) earthquakes in important ways for earthquake engineers, and if they are large enough to cause damage to buildings and infrastructure. She also talked about the impact on seismic hazard and risk, what is causing these earthquakes and possible mitigation strategies.
