Welcome to Music Education at the University of Colorado Boulder! Our experienced educators teach undergraduate and graduate courses aimed at preparing students for a career in music education; combined with unique programs and opportunities for involvement, the CU Music Education program has resulted in 100 percent job placement for our graduates.
After starting to observe music teachers during their sophomore year, the BME degree culminates in a semester of student teaching. Undergraduate majors will graduate with a K-12 teaching license in one of four specialized degree tracks: choral, instrumental, choral-general or instrumental-general.
Graduate students have the option of taking after-school courses to accomodate full-time teaching schedules.
Music education majors also study with applied faculty on their major instrument and perform in solo recitals and with a variety of ensembles. To learn more about these groups, visit the Ensembles page.
