What appeals to you about this GSA position? Briefly outline your understanding of this position’s requirements. Please also explain what you would bring to and what you hope to gain from this position.

Position Description:

The Capstone GSAs will support the Capstone Lead to conduct research regarding the MENV Capstone. This may include the following projects: (1) Capstone Impact on students, partners, and communities; (2) Best practices for experiential education; (3) Sustainability skills and competencies; (4) Sustainability careers, and others, depending on current priorities. It is likely that the candidate will be working on two projects at the same time.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in desk research including literature reviews and landscape analyses, qualitative data collection (including interviews and surveys), and preparing reports and presentations. While this role does not include any Capstone operations or management as it is strictly a research-based role, the Capstone Research GSA will have invaluable impact on the Capstone and associated curriculum through insights from their work. Finally, Capstone work is rooted in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. It is expected that the research will include DEI dimensions.

What the key responsibilities will be:

  • Identifying viable research projects based on current program priorities
  • Building an annotated library of resources
  • Conducting literature reviews and landscape analyses
  • Conducting interviews and designing survey
  • Data analysis
  • Report writing both for internal use and peer-reviewed publication
  • Presentation design
  • Translating research into actionable steps for Capstone design

What we require:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite & Google (Gmail, Google Calendar, GDrive)

Dates of employment:

Fall 2024 with an option to continue each semester through graduation.

The hourly wage for this position starts at $20/hour. Hours are expected to be roughly 5 hours/week. More information on Student Employee benefits can be found here.
