Center for Good Food Purchasing Proposal
Values Based Procurement
Project Lead:

Laura Edwards-Orr, Director of Institutional Impact
Executive Summary:
The Good Food Purchasing Program seeks to harness the power of procurement to create a transparent and equitable food system that prioritizes the health and well-being of people, animals, and the environment. With 53 enrolled institutions, in 20 cities across the country, representing $1.1 billion in purchasing power, our program brings together grassroots coalitions with anchor institutions––like K-12 schools, hospitals, and jails––in their regions around this shared vision. Together they work to enact policy and collective action plans that enable institutional purchasing to reflect the values and priorities of the communities they serve. While the program has seen much success, and continues to grow at a rapid pace, the Center for Good Food Purchasing seeks to deepen our understanding and capacity to support both our coalitions and enrolled institutions to better leverage the procurement process itself to further their goals within the program.
Key words:
