CEAS Undergrad Student News - Feb. 6, 2024

Consider nominating a fellow student who is graduating with their bachelor’s degree in May or August 2024 for a College of Engineering and Applied Science award! These eight undergraduate awards bestowed at graduation represent the values of the college and promote important themes among the student body.

Please review the criteria associated with each award and consider entering a nomination by Monday, Feb. 26 (self-nominations are not allowed). If the nominee wishes to be considered for a particular award, they will need to provide further materials to complete their nomination. Awardees will be notified by early April.

The CU Boulder Police Department is warning that some students have reported receiving emails advertising internships, asking them to deposit e-checks once hired, then transfer money to cash apps. The e-checks bounce and students are out money in the transfer. CUPD reminds students to never pay to get hired or to work. To report scams, please call 303-492-6666.

Register for a virtual mock interview with an engineering alum! Engineering Career Services is partnering with the University of Colorado Engineering Council and Alumni Engagement Partners to offer students an opportunity to brush up on their interview skills. This event is meant to help you navigate interviewing for a job or internship. You can sign up to speak with alumni across all majors who are working in industry! The Undergrad Research Opportunities Programs' Curiosity Lab workshops are open to all undergraduates interested in exploring opportunities for experiential learning on campus and beyond! • MySkills in Undergraduate Research (April 8, 10, 16, 18)

The INSTAAR Stable Isotope Lab is seeking undergraduate students to work part-time (paid) on various laboratory tasks associated with the analysis of water isotopes of ice cores.

• Begin summer 2024, extending to fall 2024 and spring 2025
• Previous lab experience is appreciated but not required
• Tasks include cutting ice core samples at the NSF-Ice Core Facility, ice analysis preparation, cleaning storage tubes and running the ice core analysis system (four-hour shifts each day)

Peer Academic Coaches are current undergraduate engineering students trained in research-based academic skills. Explore tools and strategies to use for your engineering assignments, projects and preparing for exams.

The National Security Agency (NSA) pursues people with technical aptitude who are curious and have an analytic mindset. With both expert and entry-level job opportunities, internships and student programs, the NSA has many pathways for people to get involved. CU students enrolled in Designing for Defense (CSCI/CYBR/ASEN 5550) are working with the NSA to improve methods of identifying, recruiting and retaining digital signals analysts in today’s technical workforce. We are looking for students in the College of Engineering and Applied Science to interview and gain insight on how much CU students know about Designing for Defense career opportunities. Current TAs in the College of Engineering and Applied Science are invited to participate in an online survey to share perceptions on classroom mentorship capabilities. This is part of a University of Oklahoma research study. The survey itself will approximately take 7-10 minutes to complete and requires you to respond to a few questions related to the research study and your demographic information.
Ten participants will be randomly drawn/selected and will receive $20 Amazon gift cards each. If you are interested in participating, complete the survey by Friday, Feb. 9.
