Isaiah Lyons-Galante is a Ph.D. student in Environmental Studies with Dr. Zia Mehrabi and the Better Planet Lab. Isaiah previously worked for 6 years in Kenya for a rural energy access start-up called PowerGen that design, built, and operated mini-grids across Africa. There he wore several roles in system design, operations and maintenance, new project development and software engineering. There, he saw the potential that satellite imagery and machine learning have the potential to drive and measure economic development in remote areas. 

Isaiah is interested in leveraging satellite imagery and machine learning to improve the measurement of economic development and inequality and how that changes over time. Isaiah loves to be outside and being active with his friends as much as possible, whether it's playing ultimate frisbee, skiing, trail running, mountain biking, or living communally.
