  How To Apply:

Complete the certificate application on the Continuing Education webpage.  You will need to create a login and password to begin the application. In the Certificate Program Details dropdown choose 'Global Engineering'.  A Bachelor's degree and English proficiency is required. You will need to provide your educational background (unofficial transcript), a personal statement, employment history (CV), and one letter of recommendation.  

International applicants must provide a TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo score if English is not your native language. The English proficiency requirement will be waived if you have completed at least one semester of full-time study at an institution in where English is the language of instruction or full-time work experience where English is the official language at the time you apply, and within two years from your desired admission term. Your transcripts or a letter from the university/employer are used to confirm this. Non-native English speakers should only provide certification of adequately spoken and written English. Preferred scores for each English proficiency exam are: TOEFL= 90 (only internet-based tests accepted) or IELTS = 7.0 or Duolingo = 115

Any student pursuing a relevant graduate degree at CU Boulder may apply for concurrent enrollment in the Mortenson Center Graduate Certificate in Global Engineering. The program includes a hands-on, in-person Practicum.

  Funding Opportunities:

The Mortenson Center provides scholarships for graduate students and research funding opportunities for undergraduate students. 

  • We provide substantial scholarships for our the Global Engineering Online Certificate
  • $2,500 scholarships for our in-person Practicum program participants
  • Fellowships for  ranging from $1,000-$2,500 for exceptional PMP & In-person Certificate students
  • Full-semester tuition research scholarship for selected PMP students in their third semester

The Mortenson Center in Global Engineering program is unique within the Western region of the United States, and offers residents of eligible WICHE-participating states a tuition benefit via the Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP). For more information about the WICHE WRGP, please see the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) page.  Prospective graduate students within the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering (CEAE) who believe that they are eligible for this program should note this on their online application by marking the appropriate checkbox.  Documentation is required to verify eligibility and that process is handled directly by the Tuition Classification division of the Office of the Registrar.

Under the Colorado Tuition Classification for Peace Corps Volunteers Act  (effective Fall 2023), a student who would not otherwise qualify for in-state tuition and who was certified by the director of the Peace Corps as having served satisfactorily as a Peace Corps Volunteer, is eligible to be classified as an in-state student for tuition purposes. Complete the Verification of Peace Corps Volunteer webform and upload a copy of you 'Certification of Service for Employment Purposes.

A variety of circumstances governed by state law provide tuition classification exceptions to include military exceptions, American Indian tribes with historical ties to Colorado and immigrant and refugee exceptions. Find the full list here.
