The Masters of the Environment is hiring for our new Outdoor Recreation Economy professional education program. We are now accepting applications for three new Senior Instructors in public lands policy, economic development, and outdoor industry and leadership. Since they’ll be coming to a professional graduate program, the successful applicant could be a person with academic experience and/or a person with significant professional/business/industry experience.

Senior Instructor of Environment and Natural Resources Policy:

The Masters of the Environment professional graduate program (MENV) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a Senior Instructor of Environment and Natural Resources Policy in its new Outdoor Recreation Economy (ORE) program. MENV is an interdisciplinary professional master’s degree that equips students with the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to address complex environmental challenges. MENV prepares students to become leaders in a wide range of careers in the environment, energy, natural resources and sustainability sectors. ORE creates impact for the broader outdoor industry through applied research and project delivery for organizational partners, the development of strong and productive external partnerships, and the cultivation of innovators and inclusive leaders. We are committed to supporting the entire outdoor recreation economy through innovative approaches to economic development, the management of resilient public lands and waterways, the creation of inclusive spaces, and the promotion of sustainable business practices. 

The successful candidate will possess significant academic as well as professional experience in environmental policy with a special focus on public lands or natural resources governance and policy. The candidate will have a deep understanding of issues facing the nation’s public lands and natural resources, as well as the role of policy in addressing those. Candidates with backgrounds in law and policy in the public lands and natural resources arenas will be considered. An understanding of climate impacts, and associated societal and governmental responses is also of interest to the MENV Program. We are especially interested in candidates who have academic or professional experience related to social change, diversity and inclusiveness.

MENV is an interdisciplinary professional master’s degree that equips students with the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to address complex environmental challenges. MENV prepares students to become leaders in a wide range of careers in the environment, energy, natural resources and sustainability sectors. ORE creates impact for the broader outdoor industry through applied research and project delivery for organizational partners, the development of strong and productive external partnerships, and the cultivation of innovators and inclusive leaders. As part of our new ORE specialization, we are committed to supporting the entire outdoor recreation economy through innovative approaches to economic development, the management of resilient public lands and waterways, the creation of inclusive spaces, and the promotion of sustainable business practices. We are seeking an individual to design and teach the Outdoor Recreation Industry Business & leadership course who:

  • has experience across a range of business functions that can be applied to the outdoor industry sector.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, local and regional economic development, including development that can leverage state, regional, and national assets for recreation economy development. The candidate will provide leadership in the development and delivery of teaching for graduate students, professional training, technical assistance, and applied research activities that build the capacity of communities, economic development practitioners, and relevant business and industry sectors. The candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of economic and business development strategies, emerging economic sectors, sustainable tourism and recreation development, public-private partnerships, entrepreneurial communities, and/or other related areas. We are also especially interested in candidates who are visionary, innovative, and have academic or professional experience related to social change, diversity and inclusiveness.
