Team 20: High Pressure, Small Diameter Tubing Hot Tap
Abstract

Hot tapping is a process for sampling a high-pressure fluid system without causing leaks; this process is very challenging for small diameter tubes. With Los Alamos National Laboratory, we developed a hand-actuated device to hot tap a pressurized 1/8” tube. Our device applies 260 pounds of force through a punch tip the size of a sewing needle to puncture stainless steel tubing.
