Team 14: Automated Train Bearing Inspection Machine

Abstract

An automated system enclosed in a safety cage analyzes locomotive bearing condition, improving repeatability over manual methods. Custom calipers measure inner/outer diameters, and a laser profilometer scans for surface defects. A Programable Logic Controller enables autonomous operation, cycling through 5 preloaded bearings in 7 minutes each.
