We could not be more excited to announce the launch of Student Experiential Education (SEE) at CU Boulder's Department of Mechanical Engineering. Backed by a generous donation, SEE provides mechanical engineering students with opportunities to think and act like the professionals they want to become. CU Boulder’s manufacturing class now incorporates guest speakers, company tours, a manufacturing industry panel and a variety of active learning opportunities thanks to input from industry professionals.

Senior Design leads roughly 250 mechanical engineering students to become entry-level engineers through the experience they gain completing capstone projects. Senior Design Program Assistant Gabe Rodriguez shares the inside scoop.

When high school students from rural Colorado research air quality, the result is enthusiastic students and one-of-a-kind projects. CU Boulder’s Air Quality Inquiry project pairs K-12 students with undergraduate and graduate student mentors. 

Through innovative teaching methods, students are provided with opportunities to learn by doing. At CU Boulder, opportunities for active learning are incorporated throughout the mechanical engineering curriculum. 

Design Your Career provides a framework for undergraduate students to navigate career development, preparing them to engage with industry, navigate the job search process and take ownership of their own professional development.

Graduate students are encouraged to attend seminars, colloquia and workshops that allow them to grow in knowledge, network with professionals and peers, and gain exposure to diverse styles of research presentation.

Student apprentices are students with prior internship experience who help their peers navigate the internship search process from beginning to end. They are also Teacher’s Assistants for MCEN 2000: Mechanical Engineering as a Profession.

Several engineering departments came together for a networking night featuring 17 industry volunteers with expertise in automated recycling, agricultural robotics, autonomous vehicles, next-generation linear actuators, spatial computing and more. 

At ME Alumni Connect Day, students completed mock interviews, asked their most pressing career questions and had lunch with alumni all in one day. In fall 2019, over 50 mechanical engineering alumni volunteered.

Thirty-two alumni – seasoned and recently graduated – spoke on panels and presented about their careers at the 2019 Careers in ME Symposium. They impacted the more than 250 second-year students who attended.
