The mechanical engineering communication and external relations team is seeking research story ideas that may be a good fit for EurekAlert and broader media pitching.

If your lab has recently published a high-impact paper, or is scheduled to in the near future, please reach out to Alexander Servantez or fill out this story collection form with a summary of the work and some times throughout the week you are available.

The Research and Innovation Office is hosting an engaging panel featuring leaders from the energy and manufacturing industries alongside CU Boulder researchers as they share candid stories of collaboration—what worked, what didn’t, and lessons learned along the way. Through these real-world tales, you’ll gain practical insights and best practices to help you navigate and optimize your own research partnerships.

Industry leaders from companies such as 3M, Chevron and Lockheed Martin will be apart of the panel. The event will be on Thursday, October 9 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the University Memorial Center. Use this link to register and secure your spot.

Mechanical Engineering Strategic Advisory Board (MESAB) member Dana Shinn has donated funds to the ME department for MS students who need support paying for travel to a conference or similar professional development event.

This funding will be given to facilitate educational and professional development through conference participation by MS students presenting a paper or poster, or attendance at a conference or similar professional development event.

Students must be pursuing a mechanical engineering MS (BAM included) degree to be eligible. They can apply for these awards using this link. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, October 15 at 5 p.m. MT.

The college is seeking nominations for the 2025 Caelan B. Lapointe Memorial Graduate Scholarship. Established by Dr. Caelan Lapointe, an expert in computational fluid dynamics who received his PhD in mechanical engineering from CU Boulder in 2021, the scholarship is geared towards graduate students who have shown exceptional achievement or potential in computational science and engineering.

One scholarship will be awarded to a current CEAS graduate student in the amount of $4,000. PhD and MS students at any stage of their education will be considered and additional preference will be given to students who are active participants in the Campos Student Center.

Faculty advisors should email a nomination packet to megrad@colorado.edu that includes a nomination letter, a student CV and a personal statement from the student outlining their research and activity with the Campos Student Center by 5 p.m. on Monday, November 3 for full consideration.
