The Department of Mechanical Engineering is in our second year of a new initiative focused on strengthening the connections between our students, alumni, and industry. We hope that you’ll consider joining us in this effort, by participating in upcoming alumni events and/or volunteer opportunities. Stretched for time? Living far from Colorado? Regardless of how much time you have to contribute or where you’re located, there’s an option to fit your schedule:
Subfields of ME Mini-Symposium – 2nd Annual
October 2nd, 2017 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm
Volunteer for the full time or for a single session to discuss your job or field with small groups of second-year students.
25-minute talks focus on topics like:
- What you do as a (systems, manufacturing, test, process, design, ... ) engineer
- What it is like to work in the (Energy, Biomedical, Aerospace, ... ) industry
- How an Engineering degree prepared you for a non-technical path
- How you navigated the early years of your career
- What you have learned from working on diverse teams or internationally
ME Alumni Connect Day Networking Lunch – 2nd Annual
(Previously ME Teach Day)
November 10th, 2017 from 12 - 2 pm
Attend a free networking lunch to meet with students and talk shop about your career, education, life, etc.
Ongoing Opportunities - Local and Remote
Connect with us so we can connect you with students! We have multiple options, even if you live far from Boulder or have limited availability:
- Conduct a mock interview for a student (in-person, phone, or web conference)
- Talk about your career with a student doing an informational interview (in-person, phone, or web conference)
- Be a guest speaker for a presentation related to professional development
- Join the Idea Forge/DCC “Designer Network” to provide advice on product designs for student-driven projects
- Serve as a paid consultant mentoring students in technical writing
- Serve as a judge for Senior Design Projects in the Spring
- Sign up to be informed of future events and volunteer opportunities
