Research: Novel locomotion solutions for exploring Martian lava tubes which present a possible site for astrobiological research and future human habitation
Zoe Turin grew up in Berkeley, CA. She went to an art-focused high school, but realized she wanted to go into engineering after getting a summer job in a machine shop. Zoe earned her BS in mechanical engineering with a concentration in automation and robotics at Georgia Tech. While in college, her internship experiences focused on mechanical design for space instrumentation. These experiences included structural design for a sounding rocket payload as well as design of deployable mechanisms for measuring electric fields on Europa.
Zoe is now a first-year PhD student and will be joining Professor Sean Humbert’s research group in fall 2019. She intends to combine her passion for mechanical design with graduate coursework in controls and autonomy to research novel locomotion solutions for exploring Martian lava tubes which present a possible site for astrobiological research and future human habitation.
In her free time, Zoe enjoys rock climbing, hiking and cooking delicious food. She is looking forward to exploring Boulder and all it has to offer.
