Professor Shelly Miller and Jana Milford have each authored a chapter in the new textbook Handbook of Environmental Engineering which was published in August of this year. This textbook offers a comprehensive guide to environmental engineers who desire to contribute to mitigating problems, such as flooding, caused by extreme weather events, protecting populations in coastal areas threatened by rising sea levels, reducing illnesses caused by polluted air, soil, and water from improperly regulated industrial and transportation activities, promoting the safety of the food supply. In the chapter that Professor Miller wrote titled “Indoor Air Pollution,” she discusses the nuances of indoor air pollution, such as pollutant sources, removal processes, and how to use completely mixed flow reactor to analyze and model indoor air quality.
In the chapter that Professor Milford wrote titled “Environmental Law for Engineers,” she discusses the broadest and most far‐reaching US federal statutes and implementing regulations that address pollution concerns. This includes the Clean Air Act (CAA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
