Three CU Boulder engineering students have won scholarships from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado Scholarship & Education Foundation, and two will compete for additional scholarships at the national level.
Katie McQuie, a double major in chemical engineering and environmental engineering, won the $6,000 Leonard Rice Memorial Scholarship, the organization’s top prize.
Mechanical engineering major Cherish Spengler earned the $5,000 William Russell Stoneman Scholarship, and mechanical engineering major Claire Meyer earned a $2,000 ACEC Colorado scholarship.
The three will be recognized at an award ceremony on March 29 in Littleton, Colo.
McQuie and Spengler also will be entered into the ACEC National Scholarship Program for a chance to earn an additional scholarship of up to $10,000.
“We’re very proud of Katie, Cherish and Claire and grateful to the ACEC Colorado for its continued support of our students,” said engineering scholarship coordinator Gretchen Lee.
ACEC Colorado is a business association of more than 250 member firms employing approximately 11,500 individuals in the independent private practice of consulting engineering. In 2018, ACEC Colorado established the Scholarship & Education Foundation to continue its tradition since 1982 of offering competitive scholarships to high school and college engineering students across the state. This year, the organization received a record 60 applications (including 14 from CU Boulder) and offered 14 college scholarships totaling $40,500.
