November 2017 - Majed Al Hulayel

I am a senior undergraduate student pursuing a mechanical engineering degree. I was selected for the Discovery Learning Apprenticeship (DLA) for Fall 2017 and Spring 2018. I currently work on the thermal properties measurements for air-film insulation in Dr. Ronggui Yang's Laboratory. I have been engaged in sensor selections for both temperature and heat flux, and developing a LabVIEW program to test and monitor the experiments.

During Summer 2017, I worked in two laboratories. The first was the thermal-Fluids laboratory with Dr. Julie Steinbrenner. I independently suggested, implemented and tested a method by which the airflow of an air conditioning unit could be measured accurately.

The second laboratory was the development of novel laser diagnostics for high-pressure combustion laboratory with Dr. Gaetano Magnotti at King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST). I mainly designed a LabVIEW program to control four-laser optics.

Outside the university, I enjoy my free time by playing soccer, playing video games or hiking. In addition, I like to travel to different states in the US with my wife, Zainab Al Alwan, before we go back to Saudi Arabia.

After I graduate from CU Boulder, I will be doing my MS degree in Mechanical Engineering at KAUST.
