More than 3,800 undergraduate students at CU Boulder are first generation. For these students—the first in their families to attend college—the transition can include unique challenges.

CU Boulder offers resources for first generation students but many students may not know how to find them.

To make the most of your college experiences as a first-generation student, check out these helpful hints:

  • Rely on counselors and advisors. They are trained to help you navigate the transition to college life, so take advantage of their support!
  • Find help and resources
  • Get involved on campus. Join other students in Fall Welcome activities and learn about student organizations that fit your interest at the Be Involved Fair.

"There are other people who are first generation students," says current CU Boulder student Camila Taylor. "You're not the only one."

New Student & Family Programs is here to support you throughout your transition to CU Boulder and help you find the resources you need.
