Jeopar-Donuts (Mon., Aug. 28 at 3 p.m.): Learn about student leader positions and test your knowledge of campus lingo by playing Jeopardy.

The Price is Right (Tues., Aug. 29 at 4:30 p.m.): Guess the prices of fun prizes to learn to budget. 

Decorating Your Dorm (Wed., Aug. 30 at 5 p.m.): Make some dreamcatchers for your new dorm so it feels like home.

CU Boudler Welcome Trivia (Thurs., Aug. 31 at 4:45 p.m.): Meet new friends at this years BOLD's Welcome Trivia event. Dive into fun facts about CU and kickstart your semester with a burst of knowledge. 

Find your Culture at BOLD (Fri., Sept. 1 at 5 p.m.): Join us as you begin to navigate your intercultural campus resources, socieities and Greek life.

Our BOLD Newsletter will be sent out on Sundays bi-weekly during the academic year. Stay up-to-date with programming, fun events, scholarship information, research and internship opportunities and - new this year - spotlighting our BOLD scholars throughout the year! 

For our next edition, all submission items are due by 6 p.m. Thurs. on Sept. 7. Bonus points, if you have a story idea for us!

To kick off the year strong, please take a moment to reflect on how all BOLD community members and guests can positively demonstrate our values of community, leadership, and growth mindset by:

1. Building intentional and supportive connections: Introduce yourself, welcome others to join your table, and engage with care and compassion.

2. Caring for our physical space: Clean up after yourself and wipe surfaces down after use. Put away all materials used and arrange the rooms back in order before you leave.

3. Actively participating: Be involved in programs, events, student societies, tutoring, research opportunities, internships & networking provided by BOLD and the college. 

4. Seeking to understand: Learn perspectives different from our own through active listening, dialogue, and cocurricular learning through compassion and care.

5. Encouraging yourself & others: To authentically collaborate and celebrate each other of all cultures in our inclusive community. 

For the most up-to-date information on student society meetings, be sure to check for their weekly/bi-weekly schedule on our website! Student societies will NOT be meeting during the week of August 28th, but will begin meetings on Tuesday, Sept. 5th.

To learn more about joining a student society, visit their tables at the Be Involved Fair on Aug. 30, CUnity Fest, hosted by the Center for Inclusion and Social Change on Aug. 31 and at the Engineering Immersion student organization fair on Sept. 7 from 3-6 p.m. at Herbst Plaza outside the Engineering Center.

The Student Professional Development program, through a DEI Impact grant, will support 45 engineering students from BOLD Center student societies, with high-financial need, to attend one professional conference during the 2023-24 academic year.

We offer free tutoring services available to all BOLD and CU Engineering students for most math and engineering courses! 

You can participate as early as Sept. 5th - the second week of fall classes via in-person drop-in tutoring and appointment-based tutoring.

Throughout the school year, we’ll be highlighting our BOLD community members about their experiences and any words of wisdom they may have for our readers! 

Isaac is a 5th year aerospace engineering student and a BOLD Scholar through the GoldShirt Program. 

Sounds like you had a busy summer? I was taking 13 credits over the summer and was also a full-time employee at Dr. Mark Hernandez’s lab. 

What was your research project on? Indoor air quality involving HEPAs. We conducted three tests, the first one being how well does classrooms cycle out indoor air by putting CO2 into the classroom and measuring it using differential equations. The other tests were mixing the classroom and seeing how they do well with the HEPAs mixed in with the indoor air evenly. I learned how to use Python, Matlab and R to collect this data and process it.

What are you looking forward this school year? I’m preparing for SHPE as president this year!

We have seen the devastating images from the island of Maui and extend our support for those affected. If you know any CU student impacted by the wildfires in Hawaii, we wanted to provide these on-campus resources for those who need assistance.

• Basic Needs Center - Our campus care collective connects students to essential resources like food, housing and emergency financial assistance. 
• Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) - CAPS offers students confidential, on-campus mental health and counseling services for a variety of concerns.
