Dear engineering community,

It is with a heavy heart that I reach out to you about the tragedy at the King Soopers grocery store in South Boulder yesterday. I ask that you keep the victims, their families and all those who knew them in your thoughts and in your hearts.

The road to recovery from this tragic event will be a long one, but our community is kind, caring and resilient. Please check in with your colleagues and classmates and ask them directly about how they are doing with this news. Now more than ever is the time to show compassion, empathy and support for everyone on our campus and extended community.

If you would like help coping with Monday’s shooting – or with any topic on your mind – consider contacting these resources on campus:

I urge you to pull together and care for one another as we await more information from local authorities. As the chancellor noted in his message, classes will take place today, but we encourage faculty and supervisors to be flexible if students, faculty and staff need to miss classes or work to cope with the impacts of this horrifying ordeal.

Sincerely,

Keith Molenaar
Interim Dean
