Professor Brian Argrow, Department Chair, Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences, discusses leadership and managment skills in the aerospace industry.

Professor Kathy Tobey, Engineering Management Program, shares how this certificate can help you succeed in the aerospace industry.

Do you want to be a business leader in aerospace?

The Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences and the Engineering Management Program at the University of Colorado Boulder have teamed up to offer a unique graduate certificate: Engineering Management in the Aerospace Industry.

“We’ve developed this certificate for students who aspire to leadership in the engineering field,” said Kathy Tobey, a professor of engineering practice in the Engineering Management Program. “I interviewed many aerospace leaders to understand their expectations of students who had this certificate and integrated their feedback into the curriculum.”

The program is 12 credit hours in four curated courses to provide students a foundation in global topics in aerospace, skills in program and team management, business acumen, and tools and techniques used by industry leaders:

  • EMEN 5030: Fundamentals of Project Management
  • EMEN 5830: Leading Technical Organizations (spring)
  • EMEN 5830: Global Topics in Aerospace (fall) - New!
  • EMEN 5830: Aerospace Program Management (anticipated spring 2020) - New!

The certificate is tailored for master students in aerospace, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science. It is also open to master students in physics, math and chemistry.

“This certificate will be a discriminator in your career,” said Brian Argrow, chair of Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences. “It will give students the skills to successfully lead technically complex, multi-disciplinary projects.”
