#ILookLikeAnEngineer

What does #ILookLikeAnEngineer mean to you?

Breaking stereotypes. Noticing that we are more alike than we are different, but even the differences are cool too.

What are three things that make you unique?

I was born in Mexico.
I'm the second of five kids.
I'm a licensed Water Safety Instructor.

What are your career goals?

To work in advancement of renewable energy and implement it in developing communities locally and globally.

Do you have a favorite quote or mantra?

You see things; and you say "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say "Why not?" - George Bernard Shaw

What are your hobbies?

Running, swimming, hiking, dancing, playing my saxophone.

What do you enjoy most about engineering?

The fact that I will be working on things that don't even exist right now. It's an exciting feeling. The concepts, the homework, exams. Studying for HOURS and then understanding something and seeing it in your everyday life.

What is your favorite engineering experience?

Any time I learn about the work professors, Ph.D or graduate students are doing. Not only because it amazes me that some semester down the road I'll know what they're talking about, but I also got a research experience and I learned so much through it. I also love the BOLD community and the SHPE/MAES national communities as well.

What are you up to these days?

Still doing research at CU and being President of SHPE/MAES

Do you have any advice for engineering  freshmen?

I was salutatorian in my high school. The first exam I took at CU (APPM) was a real wake up call that I had to ask for help. No matter how smart you are or think you are, office hours are helpful in so many ways and it's better to feel weird asking for help than fail or retake a class.

What high school did you attend?

Turner HS, Kansas City, KS

Daniarely Loma-Jasso, Class of 2019, Mechanical Engineering
